Dundalk Cricket Club’s Historic T20 Victory

August 15, 2023 @ 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

Dundalk Cricket Club (DCC) etched their name in Irish cricketing history by clinching their maiden T20 title at the prestigious GS Cricket T20 Trophy. In a thrilling final showdown against Ongar, DCC displayed their prowess to emerge victorious and lift the coveted trophy.

The journey to the title was marked by DCC’s stellar performance throughout the season. With an impressive record of 14 wins out of 17 games, the team’s dominance was evident. The T20 tournament, featuring 14 teams, posed a formidable challenge, but DCC rose to the occasion with determination and skill.

The final match took place at The Inch, North County CC’s home ground, amidst a sunny afternoon. Despite losing the toss and being put in to bat first, DCC’s batsmen faced the challenge head-on. Despite the pitch’s difficulty, Sakhi Jan and Avijot Singh showcased resilience, scoring 35 and 26 runs respectively. However, DCC was bowled out for 107 runs, setting a modest target for Ongar.

In the chase, Ongar started strong, but DCC’s formidable bowling attack turned the tide of the game. Umer Khan and Sanju Baby led the charge, taking crucial wickets and restricting Ongar to a mere 44 runs. Umer Khan’s stellar performance earned him the title of Player of the Match, while Sanju Baby was crowned Bowler of the Tournament. Sakhi Jan’s consistent batting prowess earned him the title of Batsman of the Tournament.

DCC’s triumph was a testament to their skill, teamwork, and unwavering determination. The club’s success would not have been possible without the support of their sponsors, including Grafton Barbers, Phone X2 Dundalk, Vitality Sports, Marhaba Food Store, Sitara Indian Restaurant, Blueberry International, and Therapeutic Touch Dundalk. Additionally, DCC expressed gratitude to Dundalk FC, Dundalk Grammar School, and Cricket Leinster for their continuous support throughout the season.

Looking ahead, DCC aims to leverage their historic victory to secure additional sponsorships and funding. The club’s vision includes the development of critical facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, and training nets, to further enhance their infrastructure.

Furthermore, DCC hopes that their triumph will inspire aspiring cricketers to join their ranks. With a record 45 players registered, the club is eager to recruit young talent and establish youth and women’s teams.
